Mainstream media really do need to engage in some long-overdue soul searching. If there is one big institutional casualty following humanity’s entry into the Age of Social Media (what many in this space term “Web 2.0”), it is the mainstream media industry. Regarded under this light and purely from the primary goal at this stage in the democratic exercise — winning the elections — it becomes difficult to argue against the tactical wisdom in administration candidate Bongbong Marcos’s skipping the so-called “presidential forum” organised by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) which will be aired at 9 a.m. Manila time today.
