The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has become an annual reminder of the culture of mediocrity of the Philippines. This year’s is a particularly fitting reminder seeing how mediocrity is on exhibit everywhere — for example, in an Opposition that offers nothing beyond emotional blackmail but, like the organisers of the MMFF, seeks to stifle competition in order to succeed.
