Dear GRP Insiders,
Pink ribbons are now the emerging symbols of Leni Robredo's traditional Opposition camp — or at least the one she continues to hope to build around herself. Why pink and not the national colours? It's as if they haven't learnt the lesson of how the colour Yellow that once adorned their political brand had become a symbol of losers.

In review and in prospect
The question now is this: Who can beat Bongbong Marcos (BBM)? The traditional Opposition that Vice President Leni Robredo continues to hope to “unite” trembles at the thought of a return of a Marcos to Malacanang. Such an event would bury thirty years of dishonest EDSA “Revolution” narrative that cast the Aquinos and Cojuangcos as the forces of “good” in a monumental battle against the “evil” of anything to do with the Marcoses.
The elephant in the room is BBM's persistent popularity — consistent with his strong showing as vice presidential candidate in the 2016 elections. Robredo, on the other hand, while seen to be the “winner” by a hair width’s margin in 2016 never since exhibited a command of the vote that matches her showing back then. The “Otso Diretso” coalition of Yellowtard senatorial candidates in the 2019 mid-term elections suffered a catastrophic loss despite Robredo's full backing during the campaign. Robredo has also scored consistently low in just about every popularity or approval survey over the last several years. That Robredo's apparent “victory” over Marcos in 2016 does not translate to a comfortable “winnability” today in the lead up to the 2022 elections continues to fuel suspicion of electoral fraud perpetrated by her camp in 2016. Was Leni Robredo ever really popular enough to beat Bongbong Marcos? Did she really beat him in 2016? Could she beat him in 2022?
It is laughable then that the rallying cry of the traditional Opposition is “Let Leni Lead” considering that Robredo has failed to exhibit any semblance of leadership over her last several years of being the presumptive “leader” of the Opposition. An Opposition that has only vendetta as its agenda, after all, cannot prosper in these times when Filipinos seek pathways forward.
