The Opposition’s continued focus on negative campaigning — criticising everything that the government does, nitpicking on the Dutertes, Bongbong Marcos and their families, and denigrating the choices of Filipinos not aligned with theirs — is likely a symptom of an acute lack of self-awareness. How, after all, can you win in a popularity contest if you are unable to step outside of yourself and understand from an outsider's perspective why your opponent remains more popular than you are despite all your PR stunts. To gain some insight into what makes the average Opposition partisan's mind tick, it might help to look back at the way we were when we were teenagers.
