Weekly Brief
The rise to power of the Second Marcos Presidency spells the end for Yellowtardism.
In review and in prospect
This week is the first week of the less-than-40-days-to-go homestretch of the campaign for the 2022 national elections. For the leading candidates Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte in the presidential and vice presidential races respectively, a big component of their remaining activities simply ride upon the broad and deep political capital they had accumulated over months of clever pitches to the Filipino people. For Opposition “leader” Leni Robredo, on the other hand, it will be a mad scramble to build even a fraction of that capital at this eleventh hour as their campaign stands on hollow ground.
The Robredo campaign had wasted a huge amount of time. Mid to late last year, there was dithering on whether Robredo would run to begin with. Then there was the hoo-ha over building a “united” front to pose a credible challenge to the formidable administration camp. Into December, the disorganised Robredo campaign underwent a trial-and-error brand building fiasco that cost the Opposition dearly in terms of more lost time and more lost face owing to misguided forays into TikTok stunts and amateurish platform treatises delivered via YouTube. A desperate call to campaign house-to-house harder and be nice to those who beg to differ now resonates across the Yellowtard echo chamber. This is really all they have left to work with.
The rise to power of the Second Marcos Presidency spells the end for Yellowtardism. Despite calls for her “pink” campaign to morph into a “movement”, it is unlikely that Robredo will remain active as a figure much less a “leader” in the Opposition that is yet to emerge over the next six years. She had failed to be a uniting leader in the crucial first few months of the campaign period and was, instead, instrumental to the degeneration of the Opposition into a morass of fragmented self-interests bannered by uninspiring and even downright insulting characters.

"If, say, every one of these Facebook users heeded the call and worked 16 hours a day (as Leni Robredo says she does) visiting about 2 houses per hour, the effort would collectively cover about 1.3 million houses per day."

"All that these rallies really prove is that Yellowtard supporters are willing to dress in their pink best, get on a chartered bus, and scrunch together in a rally at the beck and call of their 'leaders' on a Sunday afternoon."
