In review and in prospect
That the future of the jeepney remains a major part of the national debate says a lot about Filipinos. An inability to imagine an efficient means to move a large number of people around beyond the chaotic kanya-kanya landscape the current jeepney “system” offers continues to characterise the collective thinking.
It's not as if jeepneys are anything pleasant to begin with. Melodramatic nostalgia can be waxed by “activists” about the “iconic” place jeepneys hold in Filipino tradition ‘til the cows come home but the fact is, these contraptions are eyesores driven by rude people who show nothing but disregard for their fellow motorists on the road.
Why then do Filipinos continue to put up with jeepneys? Perhaps it is because doing things properly is always seen to be too hard.

"The issue is Pinoys have never been used to walking. The jeepneys have always been there to drop them off exactly where or near to where they’re going. Aside from this, there is also the absence of a long-term development plan for the national capital region."

“This environment, the capitalist environment, enabled many innovations such as Fritz Haber’s nitrogen fertilizer discovery, containerization, refrigeration and others that helped make like easier today. The claim that a central power just ordered all of this is a big lie."
